Week 10

“Life is going to give you just what you put into it.

Put your whole heart in everything you do.”

This year was truly a success. Nationals has given our team such a great experience. It really taught our team to come together and reach our goal, and to realize it is not only about winning, you get what you deserve you remember all those practices all that time you put in for that one moment and performing our routine at finals, made it all worth it.  It taught us to work hard for what we want, and how having fun and becoming a family is the most important part.

Now our focus is on next year. We already started practices twice a week, and tryouts will be in May. Next year there will be a couple changes with harder practices and tougher work ethics.

Week 9

Some succeed because they are destined to.
Bust most succeed because they are determined too

They day finally came. Towson’s cheerleading team was walking out on to the band shell for the first time ever. Twenty girls with big gold bows, holding hands with their chins up high were ready to prove themselves.

Wednesday morning, nationals were here. We were on our way to Daytona, Florida. Once arriving we had a team lunch and a practice in the arena. Our practice was not one of the best ones with the stress and pressure with teams all around us, our team was not focused. Our coach reminded us why we were here “for us”. We had a team talk and reminded each other what our goal was, “to make it to finals”.

The next day was prelims, this is where all the teams in your division compete and the top half advance to finals. This ended up being one of our worst performances; we rushed the counts, let our nerves get to us and didn’t stay focused. We had some touchdowns in our tumbling and our pyramid did not go up. We got off the floor and looked around with disappointment all that work we let nerves get to us. But we held our heads high and just waited for the scores we came in fourth place and advance to finals.

We were lucky, and we knew we weren’t going to allow that to happen again, we went back and practice more did what we were worried about. We gave each other confidence and the drive to show people how hard we worked and how good we are.

The next day was Finals. We all got up and watched our dance team who received first and it inspired us. That was our goal to just hit our routine. After spending hours of getting ready curling our hair and doing our makeup we were off to warm ups.

Well the moment was finally there, we were holding hands, praying for everything to hit, telling each other last little reminders and before we knew it we could hear our family and friends chanting TU! We knew it was our moment we had one shot and one opportunity. We walked out on that mat with our heads high and smiles on our faces we set in our spots and waited for the music to begin.

Once the music started you could see on our faces we were determined to hit this we were going to give it everything we had, and all of us did. We hit our routine, we reached our goal. We ended up placing third in the nation in division 1 all girl.

Week 8

You better lose yourself in the music, the moment
You own it, you better never let it go
You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow
This opportunity comes once in a lifetime

First Practice:

The final days.. Well tomorrow is the day, Towson cheerleading will board that plane and head out to Daytona beach. These last two days was very exciting of us. On Monday we performed at an exhibition at University of Maryland. It was another successful routine and everything hit. Tuesday was our last practice of the year, you could tell everyone was a little upset it has come to and end but at the same time everyone is anxious to just get to nationals. So with our bags all packed and confidence in our hearts were ready to hit the mat and show how hard we have worked.

Week 7

“Sometimes you need someone to believe in you

until you can believe in yourself”

This was our last full week before nationals, we had practice everyday and focused on running our routine.

We learned our cheer that we will perform in prelims and also held an exhibition at the Towson Center on Friday. The purpose of the exhibition was to show what we have worked so hard for and the difficulty they dont see on the sidelines. It was very successful, a lot of people came and supported us.

2 days left till Nationals !

Week 6

‎Believe deep down in your heart that you’re destined to do great things.”

After coming back from a couple of days off  we were back to work practicing twice a day to perfect our routine. The first few days were rough but we were soon back on track hitting our routine even better than the week before. Our coaches just reminded us to stay positive and to keep pushing ourselves to work hard. We finished off the week with a pasta party at my apartment for more team bonding.

Week 5

Championships are not won at the competition.

They are won at practice.

Our goal this week was to work hard and be able to perform our routine. We had some tough practices, but by the end of the week we hit the routine for the first time and knew we were ready to perform it. We competed for our first time this year on Saturday. We hit our routine with some minor mistakes and won first place in our division! We also got an award for our dance and received the award of Grand Champions.

This gave our team such a great  confidence boost, but is only one of the steps towards nationals. Next week we need to make sure were working harder than ever and be able to add some more difficulty.

Think about what you can do on the mat to earn respect. Is it hitting that new, innovative stunt that has never been performed before? Or is it pushing your teammates to do their very best while competing and letting that love shine through the performance? – Tayler Easton

Week 4

I believe in the impossible
If I reach deep within my heart
Overcome any obstacle
Won’t let this dream fall apart
See I strive to be the very best
Shine my light for all to see
Cause anything is possible
When you believe

A bond a cheerleading team shares is very dependable on every member. As my coach Nick Santolla says “Our team is like a blood clot.” Our team looked at him confused. He explained, that no matter what our team sticks together, when someone is hurt or upset the whole team runs to that individual, we care about each other and will always be there for one another.

This week was crunch time, it was the first time we ever ran the routine full out. Practices were tough and we know that they are only going to get harder. This is where my teammates, coaches, and myself realize how much we are a family. ” We need to lift as we climb” as my mother would say.

“Being a “cheerleader” means different things to different people… for some people being a cheerleader means adopting a new family.”  – Ryan Martin

Goals for next week:

-On Saturday the 19 we will be competing for the first time this season, our only goal is to hit the routine and have no mistakes.

Week 3

“Now is no time

to think of what you do not have.

Think of what you can do

with that there is “

— Ernest Hemingway

This quote really relates to our team to not think of the negatives of our routine and what were lacking in, but to do the best with what we have.

This week has been very stressful, our main focus was working on our pyramids and putting them all together. Our pyramid section has three different parts. A 2-2-1, swedish falls and to finish off with a tower. Pyramids is the last thing we do in our routine, it brings us together and shows off the capability of working as a team. It requires trust and confidence in your teammates.

“the only way a team or a group can succeed is if we put aside our individual glory and focus on what’s best for the team.” – Ryan Martin

Goals for next week:

-Finish hitting the pyramids

-Start running the routine full-out

Week 2

When we are dreaming alone it is only a dream.

When we are dreaming with others, it is the beginning of reality.

This week we focused on hitting the first half of the routine, but with some injuries and lack of time we were only able to perform a section of the routine at the last mens home game. Were now trying to make the transition from game ready to competition ready. Practices are becoming more intense, and coaches are starting to be more strict. It’s time to get focused and work even harder than we have all year.

“When competition practice starts, it’s a more serious attitude. It’s all about getting your stunt group to work as a machine and all be on the same page. Personally, a work-hard attitude is everything, and without it, your team will not succeed.” Bethany Harrell of

On Friday’s practice we did a team bonding activity where we all brought our socks in for nationals and wrote a quote that inspires us.

Goal for next week:

Keep running the full routine

All money is due March 1st for nationals.

How we fundraised :

-Worked at Ravens’ games handing out pamphlets or worked at the tents at the tailgates

-Worked competitions by helping judge, set up, and run warm up stations

-At football games we walked around the tailgates and asked for donations, explaining to fans that we were trying to raise money for nationals and telling them about our success last year and our goals for this year. We also did tuck for a buck, meaning girls on our team would throw standing tucks for fans at the tailgates for a dollar donation.

-Ask for family, friends, and businesses to sponsor us
